A Neglected Truth: Sensory Deprivations Effects on Intensive Care Unit Patients

Hospital environment and related experiences can effect patients biologically and psychosocially, at different levels. Sensory problems is one of the factors which affect patients negatively at psychosocial aspect. These problems have been seen more frequently in intensive care patients because of high levels of stress and stressors, unknown environment, being away from loved ones and social life. Hence, nurses who provide care have an important responsibility about creating awareness and providing prevention to these problems. In this context, it is aimed to increase awareness and sensitivity in this area by emphasizing importance of sensorial needs and prevention approaches of problems with this review article.
