Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the efficiency of nursing interventions performed to prevent injuries of children between 1-4 years old.

Material and Methods: Data was obtained from 33 mothers between the dates of 1 October 2008 – 17 July 2009. The prevention program was performed via home visits by using nursing interventions based on social learning theory. Data was collected with Information Form for Children, Families, and Mothers, the Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Home Environmental Control List. Data was analyzed by using percentage, matched groups t-test and McNemar test.

Results: Risk factors of injuries for the children included in the sample decreased after prevention program. Incidence of injuries reduced from 75.3% to 36.4% among children. Self-efficacy mean scores of mothers increased from 86.091 to 97.061. Significant changes in arrangements that would cause additional costs to family budget could not be done.

Conclusion: Risk factors of home injuries at homes was reduced via prevention program for child injuries at home. Nurses can organize counseling and education activities for home injuries. These activities are essential for prevention of home injuries and utilization of evidence-based studies.
