Aim: The aim of this study was to perform validity and reliability of Turkish version of the Symptom Status Questionnaire-Heart Failure.

Material and Methods: This methodological study was conducted in patients with heart failure (n=70) followed in internal medicine and cardiology clinics of Hacettepe University Adult Hospital between June 1 and July 5, 2019. “Patient Information Form” and “The Symptom Status Questionnaire-Heart Failure” were used for data collection. The language, content and structure validity and the reliability stages were completed, respectively.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 67.15±9.97 years, and more than half of those (58.6%) were diagnosed with stage 3 heart failure. There was a high consistency between the expert views (CVR=1.00). The exploratory factor analysis showed that the scale included seven factors structure explaining 91.009% of the total variance, and the factor loadings ranged from 0.20 to 1.0. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, Chi-square/df was 1.551, non-normed fit index was 0.83, and comparative fit index was 0.83. The internal consistency of the Cronbach’s alpha was found to be 0.86.

Conclusion: The questionnaire was found valid and reliable for the Turkish society and can be used to evaluate heart failure symptoms and their effects on patients in clinical trials.
